B1 Business Visa
An may be eligible for a B-1 visa if he/she will be participating in temporary business-related activities of a commercial or professional nature in the United States. B1 visa includes but not limited to:
- Consulting with business
- Traveling for a scientific, educational, professional or business convention, or a conference on specific dates
- Settling an estate
- Negotiating a contract
- Short-term training
- Transiting through the United States: certain persons may transit the United States with a B1 visa
- Deadheading: certain air crewmen may enter the United States as deadhead crew with a B1 visa

B-2 visitor visa
An individual may be eligible for a B-2 visa or a person travelling for pleasure without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program, in order to undertake any one of the following activities:
- Visit friends and/or relatives
- For medical treatment
- To participate in conventions, conferences or convocations of fraternal or social organizations
- Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
- Enrollment in a recreational course of study for a short period of time, which is not for credit toward a degree or academic certificate
